At the Wicker Park Early Childhood Center, we use a Reggio Emilia-inspired approach rooted in the following beliefs...

Children are full of curiosity and creativity.

We believe children are capable of constructing their own learning. They are driven by their interests to understand and know more. The Reggio-inspired curriculum is flexible and emerges from children's ideas, thoughts and observations. Our goal is to cultivate within children a lifelong passion for learning and exploration.

Children form an understanding of themselves and their place in the world through their interactions with others.

We believe strongly that children have unlimited potential and are eager to interact and contribute to the world. In order to value each child’s unique strengths and abilities and ensure we ‘listen to’ the whole child we believe each child should be the protagonists in their learning.

Children are communicators.

Communication is a process, a way of discovering things, asking questions, and using language as play. We encourage children to use language to investigate, explore, and reflect on their experiences. Children are listened to with respect, viewing their questions and observations as an opportunity to learn and search together. It is a continual and collaborative process.

The environment is the third teacher.

The environment is recognized for its potential to inspire children. Our space encourages collaboration, communication and exploration. Every detail is considered for its purpose, and every corner is ever-evolving to encourage children to delve deeper and deeper into their interests.
